After the approval of the European Code of Standards by 44 fact-checking organisations, a Governance Body of 11 persons will be elected and appointed next week to lead the EFCSN umbrella association. The EFCSN’s mission will be to evaluate compliance with the Code, help organisations uphold its standards, and represent fact-checkers in different conversations.
The EFCSN’s Governance Body will begin its work by presenting its members and the Code of Standards at a public event on November 16th in Brussels, Belgium. The half-day conference will gather the main European stakeholders in the field of misinformation from EU institutions, digital media platforms and civil society.
Attendants will learn about how the Code of Standards is enforced and the EFCSN’s goals for supporting independent fact-checking organisations in Europe. Further, we will discuss the role of fact-checkers in shaping public policy in the continent and their relation with platforms.
