How we hire

The interview process at CheckFirst varies based on role and candidate, but our standard process looks like this:

Interview Panel
  • For technical roles, you’ll have 1-2 hours technical interviews, plus a culture interview.
  • For operations or policy roles, you’ll have 1-2 hours of interviews, including a culture interview.

Open Roles

We are seeking a motivated intern to support our ongoing projects aimed at strengthening online information integrity.

The policy intern will work closely with our Chief Policy Officer and receive mentorship on how to approach legal, policy, and governance questions in the field of digital regulation.

Key responsibilities

The intern will assist with:

  • Conducting desk research on legal, policy, and regulatory questions related to online harms and threats to online information integrity.
  • Monitoring policy and regulatory developments related to online harms and digital regulation.
  • Preparing short summaries, briefings, and background notes for the policy team.
  • Supporting the drafting and editing of reports and presentations.
  • Assisting with project management and maintaining internal databases related to specific projects.

Candidate profile

We are looking for someone who is detail oriented, reliable, and able to work carefully with complex policy material.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • A legal, public policy, political science, technology policy, or related academic background.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the the ability to summarise complex legal and policy developments clearly and concisely.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with the Digital Services Act, knowledge of EU institutions, and the policy and regulatory landscape surrounding digital regulation would be an advantage.

Practical details

  • Position: Policy intern
  • Field: Digital policy, law, public policy, platform regulation
  • Location: Remote.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be based in the European Union, and must be able to undertake the internship lawfully.
  • Duration: Minimum 6 months*
  • Start date: September 2026 onwards*
  • Time commitment: Minimum 3 days a week
  • Compensation: Starting from EUR 500*

*Details may be adjusted depending on the candidate’s availability and profile.

Other Things

Remote interviewing

All our interviews are conducted over Whereby (online video platform). We prefer CET office hours, but we can be flexible if that’s difficult for you.

Re-applying

If interviews don’t work out this time, you’re welcome to re-apply after 12 months, and earlier if something materially changes about your experience or skills.

Remote work

All our positions are for now fully remote, all the time. No matter where you reside in Europe, your location will not be a barrier to joining our team. We acknowledge the value of flexibility and adaptability, hence we've completely embraced the remote work approach. There's no transitional phase or requirement to come into an office at any point - you'll have the liberty to contribute to our mission from wherever you choose.
