Check First to join the “Groupe de veille numérique à l’intégrité électorale” for the French presidential election of 2022

We, researchers and civil society experts on disinformation, foreign interference, election integrity and digital regulation, we come together in the Digital Election Integrity Watch Group.

This initiative aims to anticipate actions affecting the integrity of the election in order to better understand them. It is part of of a programme developed by the organisation Reset which aims to monitor digital threats to to electoral integrity.

The information ecosystem has changed significantly over the past decade, and with it the way democratic debate is conducted in the age of social networks. New foreign interference, domestic coordination aimed at amplifying certain polarising issues or to amplify certain polarising issues or to increase mistrust of institutions, harassment campaigns and and cyber attacks on political representatives or journalists.

These are all tactics that can influence public opinion and threaten the integrity of the election.
In 2016, Russia’s intervention in the US presidential election provoked strong reactions from the
reactions from governments, digital platforms and civil society.

The objectives of this group are:

  • To pool and optimise existing monitoring efforts by comparing different angles of observation and methodologies;
  • To alert platforms to potential actions that could impact on the integrity of the integrity;
  • engage in a joint reflection on the large-scale circulation of content that may constitute threats to society;
  • raise public awareness of research results and make them accessible to all;
  • work towards a better understanding of these phenomena by the public authorities and to make digital platforms more accountable, especially in the context of the forthcoming European application of the Digital Services Act

Check First will join this effort by bringing the data of his project 22vlalapub.
